All scholarships are for undergraduate work unless approved by the Education Committee.
All transferable scholarships may be used at any higher education institution in Texas approved by the education Committee.
All scholarships listed are available for four (4) years, or until the student completes the course of study or fails to make a minimum 3.0 GPA.
The student must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and carry a minimum of 12 semester hours.
UDC Chapters may present any number of candidates for vacant scholarships, including members of the same family.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
All letters of recommendation and endorsement must be dated, endorser identified and personally signed.
Any student leaving college before the completion of a semester shall forfeit their scholarship. The College will return the unused balance to the UDC Texas Division.
Each applicant will receive a notice of award or denial.
The sponsoring UDC Chapter will receive a copy of the acknowledgment.
Applications not approved will be returned with all documents, if the applicant provides sufficient postage.
1. Applicants must be lineal or collateral descendants of a worthy Confederate. An applicant who is a collateral descendant must be a member of the UDC or currently be or have been a member of the Children of the Confederacy.
2. The President and 2nd Vice-President of a sponsoring UDC Chapter must endorse applicants.
3. Applications must make application on the Texas Division official scholarship form. Final approval of an application shall be made by the Texas Division Second Vice-President (Chairman of Education).
4. The applicant must submit all requested information.
5. Applicant's must use full names (no nicknames).
In addition to the information on the application, the following letters, records, certificates and endorsements are to be furnished by the applicant.
a. Certified proof of Confederate Military Record of one ancestor with Company Regiment in which he served.
b. Line of descent from the Confederate ancestor to the present linking the applicant to the ancestor by each generation. Please complete the lineage sheet enclosed with the application.
c. Copy of applicant's birth certificate.
d. Letter of endorsement from the sponsoring UDC Chapter.
e. Letter of recommendation from a recent teacher or counselor.
f. Official transcript of grades of previous year or semester from school attended including PSAT and SAT scores if available.
g. Personal letter from the applicant pledging to make the best possible use of the opportunity offered through the scholarship.
h. Financial report. This form requests an estimation of the applicant's expenses including tuition, room & board, lodging and other expenses per semester.
i. One photograph (not a photocopy) wallet size (head and shoulders) to be used in the UDC Magazine.
