Houston, Harris County, Texas
Those eligible for active membership are women no less than 16 years of age who are blood descendants, lineal or collateral, of men and women who served honorably in the Army, Navy or Civil Service of the Confederate States of America, or gave Material Aid to the Cause. Also eligible are those women who are lineal or collateral blood descendants of members or former members of UDC.
Admission to the Organization shall be by invitation through a UDC Chapter.
Certificates of Birth, Death, Marriage - Many states are now issuing short form birth certificates. Unfortunately, these usually do not name the parents of the child. This document cannot be used to establish parentage.
Documented proof is required for birth, death and marriage dates and places for both people in each generation. In addition, you must supply proof of the connection between the parent and child for each generation.
We do not accept application papers from any other lineage society as documentation for UDC applications. However, if you have other family members who have been members of the UDC, you can utilize their papers and you will only have to document to your common / joint ancestor.
You can obtain copies of Confederate Service Records as well as copies of approved UDC applications for family members by contacting the UDC Libraries. To obtain information on fees and PDF forms for library research requests, go to http://www.hqudc.org/ and - click on - Library Facilities and Research Options - found on the left-hand side of the webpage.
All written requests must be accompanied by the appropriate research fee (credit card information or check made payable to "Treasurer General UDC"). Requests must be addressed to the attention of UDC Libraries. Because the UDC Library website is not secure, credit card requests will not be accepted by e-mail and only mail-in credit card requests will be processed.
"Prospective Member" rates are extended only to persons who have been invited to join a specific Chapter. Name of Chapter and Chapter Registrar extending the invitation must be included.
If you need help to determine what unit your Confederate ancestor fought or to find-out if someone fought, please search the Civil War Soldier & Sailor Database placed on-line by the National Parks Service.
To obtain copies of the Compiled Confederate Service Record, contact the UDC Library.
